Must Try: OMC Fries Poutine w/caramelised onions and Cookie Crumble Shakes

Balls balls balls, not any ball....MEATBALLS! After receiving an invitation to this fine establishment, I must admit we were a little immature and cracked a few jokes about eating balls. At first we had trouble finding the place, but with Felicia and my sense of direction combined, we managed to find it.

The restaurant is located on York street, the sign is easy enough to find, but the shop is located in a section with other food establishments. Once you walk in there is a sushi place and a café and straight ahead is the Original Meatball Company.

We were greeted with smiles as we looked at the menu. We got the chance to meet Dom and he mentioned that this restaurant is very new and has only been open for 5 weeks. The restaurant is owned by partners Dominic Lopresti and Jay Lyon who wanted to bring a taste of America to Australian grounds. OMC opened in July and on opening day they even had a free meatball day.

Having looked at the menu beforehand I could not wait to try the food. I was dying to try one of their Cookie Crumble Shakes, the combinations available sound amazing! The cookies available are Dark Choc Chip, Macadamia & white choc chip, sticky date and brandy snap. The ice cream available is Milk Chocolate, Vanilla, Salted Caramel and Espresso. These are available for you to mix and match.

I chose the Macadamia and white chocolate chip cookie with salted caramel ice cream. Sound amazing? It was delicious! Felicia ordered the Dark Chocolate Chip with Salted Caramel ice cream, she said it was really good. The cookie stays on the bottom and as you drink it, you get nice big chunks in your mouth. What a great idea and the flavours are very creative!

Cookie Crumble Shakes $5.90 - $8.90

Now for the amazeballs, I ordered a 'You Beaut!' (Beef balls w/mushroom gravy) and Felicia ordered a Coco Samui (Chicken balls w/ spicy red coconut mayo). We watched them make the meatballs behind the glass. It is almost like watching art come to life, they look so colourful!

The chicken meatballs on the Coco Samui, was very tender and the Mayo dressing was a great combination on the light and fluffy bun. Loved the crunchy element from the tasty roasted peanuts and the pickled cucumber were very appetizing. The Beef balls were also very tender and the mushroom gravy sauce was delicious!

Coco Samui $12.90 (Chicken Balls w/ spicy red coconut mayo, pickled cucumber, crushed roasted peanuts, shredded carrot, coriander leaves, baby shallot, served on rustic white)

You Beaut! $12.90 (Beef Balls w/mushroom gravy, OMC bbq sauce, caramelised onions,
swiss cheese, bacon bits, served on white brioche)

We also ordered a side dish of Fries Poutine, this came with Ragu on top and additional caramelised onions for $1.50. I must say this tasted so good. I would never think this combination would work, but it did! I will definitely order this dish again.

OMC Fries Poutine $7.90 (w/ragu, parmesan cream sauce. Add Caramelised onions $1.50)

Dom mentioned he was a vegetarian and the menu also has “vege balls”, these are mainly made from chick peas and lentils. If you try the vege balls let us know how they taste.

This was a wonderful experience and I got to try things I have never thought of before. It was a very good and very filling meal and I will definitely be going again and taking the boyfriend this time.

All comments are based on my own opinions. A warm thank you to Carlii, Dom and OMC for the invitation.

Until Next time!

  1. Dear Jess,

This kind of food looks exactly like what Americans would stuff down their throats in an eating competition.
