Da Mario

Restaurant: Da Mario
Address: 36 Morley Ave, Rosebery NSW 2018
Phone: (02) 9669 2242
Must Try: Capricciosa Pizza

I just LOVE the smell of wood fire oven. Da Mario’s kitchen is on the left as soon as you enter the restaurant, so I was salivating with the pizza aroma as I walked in.

Capricciosa - Tomato, mozzarella, mushroom,
artichoke, olives and ham $24

Looking at the slight charred base makes my heart skip with joy! The base was perfectly thin – not thin to the point where the sauce makes it soggy. Love the slight tang from the tomato and the saltiness from the olives and ham. Usually I let the boy eat more portions of the pizza, but this time we ate the equal amount :D

Casarecce al Pomodoro - Short pasta with tomato,
garlic chilli, basil and ricotta salata $19
Just like the pizza, their pasta is well made too. Their tomato based sauce is amazing and the garlic chilli gives it a bit of a kick. Ricotta salata combines everything together.

Spaghetti mare - Moreton bay bugs, zucchini, tomato,
garlic, majoran, saffron and chilli $28
So when I ordered it, I thought it’ll be served with a moreton bay bug on top of the pasta but it turned out to be mixed with the sauce already. None the less, like the short pasta above, the sauce is tasty. I really want to know what they put in it!

Their d├ęcor is modern industrial but their menu is very authentic – no pizza variation is allowed. We found out when we wanted anchovies on the pizza, but they were happy to provide it as a side dish. This is the pizza place that I’ll recommend and I can’t wait to have another meal there.

  3. Love the pillowy look of these pizza bases. And I kinda respect it when pizza places adopt a "no variations" stance. lol
