Must Try: Fresh Balmain Bugs in Garlic Parsley Butter Sauce

Time for a little road trip to the pictureque Hunter Valley Region while dad is in Sydney! After spending a bit of money in the wineries, we drove around 20 min to Bistro Molines in Mount View for lunch.

We started off with these complementary skewers with olive, tomato, basil, mozzarella and rockmelon with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My mouth waters as I think about the flavours of this little dish.

Fresh Balmain Bugs in Garlic Parsley Butter Sauce $29

This was on their handwritten specials menu and I’m so glad I ordered it! The whiff of parsley butter when it was served was heavenly. The bug itself was fresh, flawlessly cooked and the serving was very generous with at least 3 whole bugs.

Wild Mushroom Tarte with Sautéed
King Brown Mushroom, Porcini Cream $26
The waitress highly recommended this to us because of the porcini cream and said that she can just indulge in it whole day. We totally agree with her, the flavour was intense and I wish there was more. The tart was a tad bland by itself, it might be due to the overwhelmingly yummy cream.

Actual view from our seat!!
During our meal, the humble owner took time from the kitchen to come out and wish my dad Happy Birthday, not sure where she got that from because it wasn’t his birthday yet! We had a laugh and chatted a little bit about the scenic view before she head back to work.

Pan Fried Trout, Curried Cauliflower Puree,
Broad Bean, Raisin Beurre Noisette $41
The trout was done well and it was complemented with the smooth puree. The beans, peas and noisette were freshly sweet and along with the slight spiced puree, I just couldn’t stop eating it!

Butter Poached Little Hill Farm Chicken Breast,
Silverbeet, Sweet Corn, Almond Cream $41
The chicken was tender with no stringy bits. Particularly adore the corn, it was so freshly sweet and the almond cream was divine.

Fillet Mignon, Sauteed Spinach, Black Garlic Croquette,
Red Wine Jus and Bearnaise $44
Dad had this and said the beef was nicely cooked. I tried a bit of the crispy croquette, it was smooth inside and definitely taste the lovely garlic in it. Wish I could order that as a side hehe.

We also ordered Mixed Leaf Salad with Tarragon Vinaigrette $10 (not pictured). The vinaigrette was very appetising.

Finished off with these little complementary desserts, I enjoyed 2 of each because my dad doesn’t have a sweet tooth (lucky me!).

The peaceful vineyard view, exceptional food and service made our meal experience very delightful. There was hardly anything to fault about the food and I hope their mouth-watering bugs have a permanent place on their menu.
