Must Try: Roasted Cauliflower with crisp curried chickpeas

My go-to place whenever I have visitors from overseas. A quick train ride from Central to Milsons Point that showcases our lovely Opera House and harbour.  The Botanist is just a 5 min walk from the train station and if you go on a Saturday, there’s also a market there!

Beer battered chips, house ketchup $8

I’ve been here numerous times and every time I HAVE to order their chips. They’re so goldenly crunchy and their ketchup is very addictive too.

Sliders: Battered fish, jalapeno tartare, iceberg;
Beef, tomato relish, pickles, cheese, mustard mayo $6 each

The fish was lightly battered and the tartare had just the right amount of jalapeno without being overly spicy. I was told that the beef itself lacked flavour and all that could be tasted were the yummy tomato relish.

Mulloway fillet, beluga lentils, spiced pickled carrots, peas, ras el hanout, yogurt $30
The fish was perfectly cooked and that crispy skin was quickly demolished! The spices used in this dish were amazingly good with the pickled carrots combining the dish together.

Chargrilled Fremantle octopus, potato & green bean remoulade, harissa, caramelized lemon $32
The octopus was a tad chewy but we finished the cabbage with a big squeeze from the beautiful charred lemon.

Roasted cauliflower, crisp curried chickpeas, currants, cashews, parsley $20
Saving the best to the last. I could snack on those moreish chickpeas all day long, they’re like the chips but I feel less guilty indulging in them! It goes well with the roasted cauliflower and everything else in the dish.

The great food, service and home style d├ęcor makes The Botanist a perfect place to chill out and catch up with friends. There’s even live music on Sundays! Do remember to pick on their cauliflower with chickpeas and chips. If you have friends/family visiting from overseas, show them our famous Harbour Bridge before or after, it’s just a 10 min walk away.
