Flying Fish - Pyrmont

Good seafood with a stunning harbour view, couldn’t possibly ask for more!

We start of our meal with complementary bread rolls. The butter just disappeared into the warm bread as soon as it was spread on.

Selection of Sashimi $35

There were 3 of each following: tuna, tuna mixed with tobiko wrapped with nori, ocean trout, snapper and kingfish. All were high quality and thinly sliced, although the tuna with tobiko was a bit bland. Even the pickled ginger tasted spicier and better than the standard Japanese restaurants.

Roast barramundi, ginger puy lentils, sweetcorn, buckwheat popcorn $46
Where to begin with this delicious dish? The first thing I can smell was the lovely popcorn which was tasty with the sweet corn puree. I absolutely loved the strong ginger cooked with the lentils (need to try experimenting this at home). The barramundi was heavenly along with that lightly salted crispy skin.

John Dory, warringal greens, lobster yuzu butter $48
This was also delightful with the fish glazed with some kind of sweet sauce. The lobster yuzu butter went well with the dish.

Spring peas, ricotta and almond $12
The peas were sweet and love the ample amount of crunchy almond flakes!

Flying Fish is located at the end of the wharf with an industrial interior. We could easily imagine how it was used by the boats back in the days. Along with the food, I really like the beautiful stars-like lights hung from the ceiling with the Sydney Harbour Bridge as the backdrop.

Their menu changes with the season, so I’ll definitely come to try out their new food perhaps during the day time to get the most out of the view!
